Messy Celebrity Custody Battle Ensues
Earlier this year, the New York Post reported on a dramatic custody battle between Olympic ski champion Bode Miller and his ex, Sara McKenna. According to the report, the custody battle was long and protracted, and neither could agree to visitation terms and rights.
The couple eventually settled on a last-minute custody agreement that enabled regular Skype time with the young child. According to the report, however, McKenna was not enthusiastic about the Skype clause and suggested that a virtual presence could not be substituted for the real physical interaction.
The custody battle that played out in the public domain highlighted the complexity of such matters. The final custody agreement is believed to be seven pages long and is subject to review by officials following subsequent psychological evaluations of the child’s mental wellbeing.
According to the New York Post, however, the judge believed the lengthy custody agreement to be in the child’s best interest and approved the conditions.
Four Dead in Murder-Suicide Following Custody Dispute
The NY Daily News reports that four people have been killed in a “murderous rampage” following a custody dispute between a man and his ex-girlfriend. According to the report, the man shot his ex-girlfriend, their child and a woman acting as a mediator in the custody battle.
After the man killed the three innocent victims, he turned the gun on himself and took his own life in what police are describing as a murder-suicide.
The mediator who was shot in the dispute was attempting to resolve what had become a lengthy custody dispute. She was working toward a criminal justice degree at the time and was hoping to find a resolution that suited all of the individuals involved in the custody battle.
