If Your Child Is Taken Away
New York’s child abuse and neglect laws are very serious. Most parents who find themselves on the wrong end of these laws are surprised at how easily children can be taken away. If this has happened to you, you want to know when you can get your child back. You want to know how this will impact your future. You want to know how this can be resolved.
I am an experienced family law attorney who understands the issues that can lead to allegations of child abuse and neglect. I will educate you about your case and work closely with you to help you get your child back.
At the Law Office of Elliot Green, I stand up for the rights of parents accused of child abuse or neglect in Brooklyn, Manhattan and throughout New York City.
Social Services has a job to do. They want to keep children safe. I want that too, but I understand that sometimes mistakes are made and children are removed from their parents when they shouldn’t be. I help parents get their children back.
Your Duty as a Parent
Many parents don’t fully understand their responsibilities. While it is true that many children are taken away because of direct abuse, it is common for children to be taken away simply because the parent wasn’t paying close enough attention. The child was injured and the parent didn’t know how. It is the parent’s duty to know. It is the parent’s duty to protect the child. However, failing that duty once should not necessarily lead to having a child taken away.
To Get Your Child Back
As your lawyer, I will work with you to help you show the court that your child will be safe if returned to your care. If that requires seeking an order of protection against someone else in the household who is of concern to Social Services, that is what I will do. If it requires bringing in a relative to temporary assume care of the child, that is an option that may have to be considered.
