According to MStars News, New York City meteorologist, Bill Evans, reporting for WABC was arrested along with his wife, Dana Evans, after the Greenwich Police were informed of an altercation, which took place in May. In a prepared statement, Dana’s attorney said that she notified police of the event after she sought counseling at a local center for domestic violence.
After 19 years of marriage, the couple is involved in nasty divorce, which culminated in the fight at their Greenwich home. They both were arrested and charged with third degree assault and disorderly conduct. Each also have an order of protection. Elliot Green, NY order of protection attorney, explains that up until recently people dealing with domestic violence during a divorce had to go to two different courts, but now these cases are consolidated and seen by the same judge. This innovation, called integrated domestic violence, makes it less stressful for individuals going through an already taxing experience.
The kids involved in these cases probably suffer the most. According to the New York Daily News, the fight that began over Bill Evans’ car keys continued in the master bedroom until the couple’s children intervened. Will Evans 21, a person purporting to be the couple’s son, commented under the article, “My family is in a tough time at the moment and every word of this story is false.” He goes on to say that, “The story was given to the writer by an outside source and adjusted and blown out of the spectrum wildly.”
The story included details that apparently came out in the recent court appearance. Dana alleges that her husband attacked first, knocking her to the ground and punching her in the face. She says that she suffered a black eye, bruised collarbone, and a cut on her left hand. Dana claims that she used a hanger in self-defense. Bill, however, tells another story. He said that his wife beat him on the buttocks with the wooden hanger until it broke leaving him a bruise four inches long in his statement to the Greenwich Police. He claims this Mommy Dearest style beating came after she held him by the waistband of his underwear and scratched his scrotum, causing it to bleed.
Bills counsel claims that Dana only went to the police after her attorneys advised her to weeks later and that it was an attempt to gather ammunition against Bill Evans during the heated divorce battle. Attorneys representing each side say that they expect the charges to be dropped, and Bills attorney even likened the case to the popular sitcom Seinfeld because, “it’s the case about nothing.”
It’s not “nothing” to the Evans family. These charges add fuel to the hurtful fire of a bitter divorce.
